This policy explains what StandBy Clock & Photo Display does with your data. It covers the Android and the iOS app.
There is no account. Your photos, your chosen clock face and your settings stay on your device. Three things can leave it: your location, only if you switch the weather display on; the advertising signals the ad network needs, only if you see ads; and a small amount of anonymous usage information (which screens are used, how long, which purchase was made) that we keep on our own server to understand how the app is used. Nothing we collect identifies you by name, e-mail or phone number.
When you add pictures to the photo frame, the app copies them into its own folder inside the app's storage on your device. They are never uploaded, never sent to us and never shared with anyone. Deleting the app removes them with it.
If you turn the weather display on, the app asks for your location and sends your coordinates (accurate to roughly 100 metres) to OpenWeatherMap to fetch the forecast for where you are. That request goes directly from your device to OpenWeatherMap; their privacy policy applies to it. The last coordinates are cached on your device so the weather can be shown again without asking for a fresh fix.
If you never turn the weather display on, the app does not ask for your location and no location data is collected or sent.
The free version shows ads served by Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier and technical information about the device and the ad request. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland the app shows a consent form before any ad is loaded; you can choose non-personalised ads there and change your choice later from the same form. AdMob's handling of this data is described in Google's privacy policy and AdMob's advertising policies.
Ads are removed permanently by the "Remove ads" purchase or by any Premium plan. Ad-free users are never sent an ad request.
Purchases are made through Google Play (Android) or the App Store (iOS). The store handles payment; we never see your card or bank details. We receive the product you bought, an order number and the time of purchase so the app can unlock what you paid for, restore it on a new device and help you if something goes wrong. Refunds and subscription changes are handled through the store.
On first launch the app generates a random install identifier (a UUID). It is not derived from your device, your Google or Apple account or any hardware number, and it changes if you reinstall the app. Together with this identifier the app sends us:
We use this to see which features are used, which offers are useful and which are not, and to support you when a purchase does not unlock. The data is stored on our own server, is not shared with or sold to anyone, is not combined with data from other apps or websites, and is not used for advertising. It is kept for 36 months and then deleted. If the server cannot be reached the app simply keeps working; nothing about this affects the display.
You can find your install identifier under Settings → About. Send it to us if you want your usage record deleted or a purchase looked into.
To understand how the app is used, a subset of the events above is also sent to PostHog, a product-analytics tool we run on our own server (posthog.ruicodex.com). The data stays with us; it is not sent to PostHog Inc. or any other company.
You can change your choice at any time under Settings → About → Privacy options (shown where the consent form applies); sending stops immediately. This data is kept for 36 months, like the usage information above, and is deleted together with it (see Deletion).
If you use Send feedback (Settings → Community, or Goals), the app sends the category you picked, the text you wrote, your optional "what should come next" choice, and your install identifier, app version, language and level. We use it only to fix problems and decide what to build next; it is stored on our own server with the usage information above, is not shared or sold, and is deleted with it. Please do not put personal information in the message. Sending feedback is optional and has nothing to do with ratings or reviews on Google Play or the App Store.
Your selected clock face, colours, brightness, favourites and other preferences are stored on your device only.
Deleting the app deletes everything the app kept on the device: photos, settings, passes and the cached coordinates. To delete the anonymous usage record on our server, e-mail us your install identifier (Settings → About) and we will remove it, together with the product-analytics data filed under it, within 30 days.
The app is suitable for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information, so there is nothing collected from children either.
